Remembering An Gorta Mor

Every May we commemorate an Gorta Mor (the Great Hunger). We remember the more than one million Irish that died and the two million forced to leave their homes and country to escape the Great Hunger by participating in various Hibernian Hunger Projects. We encourage all brothers and their families to consider committing some extra time this month to help fight hunger by volunteering and/or donating to the local food bank/pantry. A list of food pantries in the area can be found at https://www.wcpss.net/cms/lib/NC01911451/Centricity/Domain/135/food%20pantry%20wake%20county.pdf .

Some of us will be volunteering at Brown Bag ministry at St Catherine’s church in Wake Forest this Saturday morning. If you’re not familiar with Brown Bag, volunteers make sandwiches and pack brown bag lunches. Then they deliver them to a low income neighborhood near downtown Wake Forest and hand them out to those in need.

If you would like to join us you can sign up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0545a9a829a64-brown

For those outside of Wake Forest there are other locations for Brown Bag in the Raleigh area. https://brownbagministry.org/sites/

NATIONAL PRAYER VIGIL FOR LIFE

The National Prayer Vigil for Life will take place from Thursday, January 20 through Friday, January 21 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. The Vigil program has been adjusted due to ongoing Covid concerns.   The January 20 Opening Mass will begin at 5:30 p.m. (Eastern) and will be immediately followed by a 7:00-8:00 p.m. Holy Hour for Life, concluding the evening portion of the Vigil program. Both the Mass and Holy Hour will be televised live by EWTN. The following morning, the Closing Mass on January 21 will take place once again at the Basilica at 8:00 a.m. (Eastern), and will also be televised by EWTN.

DC MARCH FOR LIFE

The March for Life will take place as a normal on-site event on Friday, January 21. Please be sure to check the March for Life website directly for related updates concerning travel and other logistical details.

A Dark Day in America: Your action needed more than ever!

Last Friday was a very dark day as the House of Representatives voted to pass the most radical abortion bill ever. The so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, H.R. 3755, would:

  • Allow abortion on demand nationwide throughout EVERY STAGE of pregnancy
  • BAN pro-life laws in every state and local government
  • Force Americans to support abortions with their tax dollars
  • Likely eliminate conscience protections for doctors—among other extreme actions

 TAKE ACTION NOW!

Of those present, all but one House Democrat voted for the bill and all House Republicans voted against. The single House Democrat to vote against the bill was Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas. You can see how your representative voted here.

In his statement responding to this vote, Archbishop Joseph Naumann, Chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities, called this bill “the most extreme pro-abortion bill our nation has ever seen.”

Please contact your Representative today either to thank him/her for voting against H.R. 3755 or to express strong, but respectful, disagreement with their vote for the bill while urging him/her to reconsider support for this radical bill.

In addition, we believe it is likely that the Senate will also vote on this bill in the very near future. So, please also contact your two Senators to strongly urge their opposition to the Senate version of this bill (S. 1975) when it comes up for a vote.

TAKE ACTION NOW!

As always, we are grateful for any action you can take on this matter and for all you do to proclaim the Gospel of Life. Please also join us in praying that our nation and its leaders will fully embrace this Gospel.

Stop the Federal Legalization of Baby Murder

In response to the Texas Pro Life Heartbeat law, Nancy Pelosi has announced that the US House will vote on a bill to codify Roe v Wade. As Pope Francis reiterated this week, abortion is murder, and this bill legalizes murder. The bill is called H.R. 3755 the Women’s Health Protection Act.

The US Bishops are asking for help in defeating this bill.
