Remembering An Gorta Mor

Every May we commemorate an Gorta Mor (the Great Hunger). We remember the more than one million Irish that died and the two million forced to leave their homes and country to escape the Great Hunger by participating in various Hibernian Hunger Projects. We encourage all brothers and their families to consider committing some extra time this month to help fight hunger by volunteering and/or donating to the local food bank/pantry. A list of food pantries in the area can be found at https://www.wcpss.net/cms/lib/NC01911451/Centricity/Domain/135/food%20pantry%20wake%20county.pdf .

Some of us will be volunteering at Brown Bag ministry at St Catherine’s church in Wake Forest this Saturday morning. If you’re not familiar with Brown Bag, volunteers make sandwiches and pack brown bag lunches. Then they deliver them to a low income neighborhood near downtown Wake Forest and hand them out to those in need.

If you would like to join us you can sign up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0545a9a829a64-brown

For those outside of Wake Forest there are other locations for Brown Bag in the Raleigh area. https://brownbagministry.org/sites/

Thanksgiving Food Drive

We will once again be teaming up with D’s Bottleshop to run a Thanksgiving Food Drive to collect food for the New Bern House, which is home to hundreds of homeless families with children in transition. It is a safe haven where families find help, encouragement and support in getting back into the mainstream. We are looking for donations of items for their Thanksgiving dinner, but all donations are welcome.

We have boxes out the week ahead for non-perishables, but the frozen birds can only be accepted on Saturday, November 17th. Ewes Tree Irish Band will be playing Irish Music from 6:30pm – 9:30 ish Saturday night and as always D will be serving a great selection of craft beer and wine.

D’s Bottleshop is located in the Wakefield Plaza at:

Charity Quarter Auction

Join us on Saturday October 13th, 2018 for a Charity Quarter Auction at the Knights of Columbus.

This months charity is for Wags 4 Tags doors open at 6pm. $5.00 meals available, cash bar. Brings lots of quarters. it is like an auction, a raffle, a charity fundraiser, & home party all in one! Local vendors will sell items at their tables and will also have 1 auction basket for only 1 quarter per bid! It’s a fun night so be prepared to get addicted; you’ll want to come every month.

Be sure to bring rolls of quarters to do your bidding, also bring your wallet or credit card to buy from the vendors tables.

No One under 18 allowed.

$3.00 will be collected for each bidder paddle at door and you will receive a vendor sign in sheet. You will go around and talk & shop with each vendor- have each vendor sign next to their table number then when done you will turn in at front table, so your name can be pulled for door prizes from each vendor..

The charity of the month will also have an auction table, of great donated items….

Lori has also included live auctions of certain items from the charity table. So be prepared to bid against your neighbors and be sure to be high bidder. We accept checks, cash & credit cards.

How it Works::

– Each item up for bid will be displayed for all guests to see at the vendors tables.

– There will be a brief description, retail value and to bid only 1 quarter. Guests that want to play will give their bid (1 quarter) and hold up their numbered paddle.

– When all bids are collected, the auctioneer will draw a numbered chip from the container. If the number on your paddle matches the number on the chip drawn, you’ve won that item! If a matching numbered paddle is not held up, the auctioneer will draw again, until we have a winner.

– Once we have a winner all chips will be placed back in the container and go to the next item to be auctioned off.

Be prepared to stay late & go home a winner!!!

Sponsored by Columbus Club of Raleigh. come on out. Guys tell your wives. Bring lots of quarters.
